China Daily via REUTERS/File Photo BEIJING (Reuters) -China’s factory activity expanded at a slower pace in September, a private-sector survey showed on Sunday, with sluggish external demand weighing on the outlook even as output increased. The Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) fell to 50.6 in September from 51.0 in the previous month, missing analysts’ forecasts of 51.2. The 50 index…

Recommended by Daniel Dubrovsky Get Your Free USD Forecast The US Dollar broadly outperformed against its major counterparts in the third quarter of 2023. Relatively speaking, it performed the best against the British Pound, Japanese Yen and Australian Dollar. Meanwhile, the Chinese Yuan fared better.A key theme throughout the third quarter was the evolving landscape of long-term Federal Reserve monetary policy expectations. At most, the central bank may hike rates one more time this year. But, that is not where the focus has been.Instead, financial markets have been increasingly pricing in a higher terminal rate. In other words, the tone…
JHVEPhoto Despite a recent rally, Novo Nordisk (NVO), Europe’s second-most valuable firm, has underperformed in recent weeks as markets await the outcome of a patent challenge mounted by Viatris (NASDAQ:VTRS) over the company’s best-selling weight-loss therapy, Wegovy. The Danish drugmaker’s GLP-1 receptor agonists Wegovy and Ozempic propelled Novo (NVO) to briefly become Europe’s most valuable publicly traded company early this month before luxury retailer LVMH (OTCPK:LVMHF) (OTCPK:LVMUY) reclaimed the top spot. The drugs, known as semaglutide in generic terms and a key reason for the company’s sky-high market valuation, brought $9.4B in sales for Novo (OTCPK:NONOF) in 2022, up ~88%…
Before we get into October, let’s take a look back at how the seasonals did in September. At the end of August, I highlighted some trends in the month, including weakness in the S&P 500 and MSCI world index. Ultimately, both stuck to the seasonal script.Another one I highlighted was yen weakness (USD/JPY rose 205 pips in the month). One I find particularly interesting is NZD/USD strength. That historical pattern goes against the usual risk aversion in September and it did once again this year as NZD/USD made slight gains this month. USD/CAD also bucks the trend as the loonie…
gorodenkoff/iStock via Getty Images Abcam Plc (NASDAQ:ABCM) founder and large shareholder Jonathan Milner sees several options beyond the “no vote” in his opposition to the company’s planned sale of $24 a share to Danaher (NYSE:DHR). Milner believes the no-vote threshold under the scheme of arrangement is “easy to meet,” he told Dealreporter in an item published Friday. “It seems nonsensical to be rushed into accepting $24 per share now when the deal is not expected to close until June 2024 at the earliest and there is a real opportunity to restore Abcam to a high performing and highly valued business…
