REUTERS/Brendan McDermid By Echo Wang (Reuters) – Wall Street’s main indexes fell on Wednesday, giving up modest initial gains, on growing concern about a recession in 2023 and surging COVID-19 cases in China, the world’s top oil importer. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:), Alphabet (NASDAQ:) Inc and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:) fell between 0.9% and 2.3% as the recovered from a brief fall to rise for a third straight session. Ten of the 11 sector indexes were lower. Energy stocks were…
Bonds and bond yields have been the markets to trade in 2022 thanks to global central banks’ focus to fight high inflationary conditions with rising interest rates. USD/CAD rebounds from weekly lows around 1.3520s and closes to the 1.3600 mark. Overall, US Dollar strength and falling oil prices keep the USD/CAD rallying. USD/CAD Price Analysis: Upward biased, and a daily close above 1.3600, could pave the way to 1.3700. The USD/CAD erases Tuesday’s losses and forms a tweezers bottom candle pattern, as it failed to crack the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at 1.3583. Also, a sudden shift in market mood increased appetite for the US Dollar (USD) due to its safe-haven status. At the time of writing, the USD/CAD is trading at 1.3590 after hitting a…

A stronger US Dollar and higher US yields sent gold prices below $1,800. Next support is a short-term uptrend line around $1,795. US stocks turn negative, adding support to the Dollar. Gold prices extended losses during the American session and printed a fresh daily low at $1,797. Currently, XAU/USD is hovering around $1,800 with a bearish bias. A slide back under $1,800 would make gold vulnerable to a decline to test an uptrend line around $1,795. A break below could trigger more losses, to the $1,785 zone. Below the next support is located at $1,773 (Dec 15 & 16 low).…

The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury dipped before turning higher in a choppy session after it recorded its…
Indices Talking Points:The S&P 500 set its all-time-high on January 4th of this year after which bears went on the attack. The bearish theme came in waves this year even with a hawkish fundamental backdrop. The counter-trend moves from June-August and October-December were powerful, racking up 18.92% and 19.36% bullish trends inside of the overall 2020 trend that’s seen the S&P lose -19.76% on net (as of this writing). The big question for next year is whether the worst is over and whether the Fed is nearing a pivot. That doesn’t look to be the case from where we’re at, but things…
