New commercial vehicle registrations in the EU retreated by 5.1% in the month of December 2022. This was mainly due to continued component shortages that affected availability. All segments suffered.
Region wise: four major markets gave mixed results, France and Italy faced losses, down 14.2% and 8.3% respectively. While, Spain saw a solid improvement up 15.2% and Germany up 8.4%, according to European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association or ACEA.
Overall in 2022, EU commercial vehicle registrations plunged 14.6%, December figures down 5.1%. Major markets figures deteriorated by France down 17.7%, Spain down 16.7%, Germany down 11.0% and Italy down 10.5%.
December registrations of new vans dropped by 5.1%, totaling 120,503 units sold across the EU. FY down 18.1% lower. December new heavy commercial vehicles contracted by 1.9% Y/Y. Heavy trucks registrations up 6.5% Y/Y. December new medium and heavy truck registrations fell by 3.2%, and FY figures grew 3.5%. December new buses and coaches contracted by 17.2%, while FY retreated by 5.1%.
December marks the 17th month of decline in commercial vehicle registrations, a quick look previous analysis.
